The Heart Of Community
"Heart" is the most common word associated with the central aspect of someone or some thing.
If someone asks, "What's on your heart," we all know what that means even though it's hard to define what the "heart" actually is. We even feel our hearts when we encounter especially strong emotions.
Heart is also quite an important word in the Bible, used hundreds of times. For example, if we believe "in our hearts" in Jesus' death and resurrection, we are saved.
So what is the "heart" of community? I prepared this message for delivery at Big House Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia in February of 2025 as part of our emphasis on the importance of small groups in our community. This message takes you on a bit of a "rabbit trail" that's connected to our time of prayer and fasting in the weeks leading up to this Sunday delivery, but I think it all comes together in the end.
In the message, I reference journals I compiled of our story together at Big House for two specific years. You can access those here (2016 and 2018). Lots of extras in the longform notes this time.
